There are songs that made the country and its music lovers stand still throughout the year.

The year 2016 was a reset year for Nigerian music. From the emergence of Mr Eazi and the reinvention of Phyno , the most visible music was the one which embraced novelty in sound.

Olamide showed his strength in viral hit music, while Tekno crossed into the year firing from all cylinders.

There’s happiness for Reekado Banks, and also a pop resurgence for Illbliss . Singles from some of the most anticipated releases sounded unfinished.

While the recession, which plagued the country all year long bit us hard. But positively, all of the music served to carry Nigeria through and give us light in what has been a pessimistic year.
